I disagree. AI is just a tool. Just like you suddenly get much better once you use pen on paper compared to using hand paint on cave walls, you get much better by going from pen & paper to AI. You don't actually get better, your work gets better, because your tools are better.
Now here's another thing. Let's define artistic talent as the aggregation of 2 factors :
1) Creativity = the ability to picture an interesting idea in your mind
2) skill = the ability to approach that idea you have in mind
BOTH and EITHER are important.
With regard to 1 : While AI helps a LOT with making things look good, it does NOT help with creativity AT ALL. You won't suddenly have better ideas because of AI.
With regard to 2 : But also, once you've got your idea in mind, AI isn't even that good at approaching it. It is good at reproducing something that already exists, it's somewhat decent at slightly modifying a result that is already achieved, but it SUCKS at creating new things, or at conforming to a specific description to fit a precise idea that you have in mind. It's not all that powerfull AT ALL. Very much like you'd get disappointed because you didn't manage to draw the picture you had in mind with a pen on paper, you'd get disappointed because the result that the AI produces doesn't fit your description of what you had in mind. Just like with pen and paper, a lot of trial and error is involved.
And even if AI were to become an all godly powerfull tool that could directly transform any picture in your mind and concretise it into something you could share with others, this picture in your mind is still yours, you created it yourself, and AI didn't play any role in that. It only helped concretise the idea you had in mind to make it possible to share it with others. And that's an incredibly beautifull thing.
It's exactly the same debate than robots replacing workers. In a perfect society, robots would do all the work and people would just be having fun all day. It's not a bad thing. They're not stealing your work, they're letting you do something else more interesting. You could still do the interesting parts of work yourself as a hobby if you wanted, nobody's taking that from you. The problem is not the technology, it's the fact society is not ready to adapt. In a world where robots do all work, the necessity of wages wouldn't be a thing anymore. In a world where AI could transpose any idea in your mind into something real that you can share with everyone, everyone could become an artist, and the best ideas could be made available for everyone to enjoy. For example, you wouldn't need some multi-million dollar budget to produce any decent movie. It just makes more things available to everyone and could ultimately lead to improvement of the expression of creativity.
The issue is that the current role of art as a livelyhood clashes with its primarily role of enjoyement. To be able to enjoy art, you have to be able to live from it. To be able to live from it, you can't have any bozo achieve the same results as you after all the work you've put. But ultimately, if you both achieve the same result, it's worth the same in itself.
