The other side of the "AI could wipe us out" argument: fear mongering because those in power (in government and big business) are afraid AI will figure out a way to push society into a "post-scarcity" society where everyone lives in general peace and prosperity without need for overarching government and/or big business. They so desperately want to hold onto control of us all that they'd hamstring AI so that they hold all the puppet strings.
