The thing about comparing Ai to photography is that people are amazed when an artist can make a piece that looks like a photograph and even photos that look like traditional art are interesting. But nobody with any art knowledge is gonna impressed by Ai imitating either photography or traditional art as it's literally using them to create the finished piece. And, yeah, photoshopping an image does too, but that's why there's rules around which images you're allowed to use. At the end of the day, Ai is basically just a more advanced and automated photo manipulation. Why shouldn't it be subjected to the same rules?
No hate to photo manipulation artists, btw. I certainly don't have the skills to do what they do and not for lack of trying. But their experience working with the medium allows them to refine the piece and think about every detail as opposed to Ai just throwing things at the wall in a way others have done before. I just mean that both take existing images to create something new. Ai just has a wider pool of images and a different way of going about it
