As a Software Engineer I get that my job seems to be easy for AI with all the AI website builders, Copilot and ChatGPT writing code, but it's really not.
AI can write you a beautiful website (more or less, mostly pretty basic looking), simple scripts and so on, but that's about it. For everything else it's still far from competent. It can pretty much only generate small amounts of code and that's why it's bad at writing actual software. Software is a huge and complex construct of code where all the parts are related to each other in some way or another. AI struggles to comprehend these links. So running an AI that can build you complex Software would be extremly expensive. And then you probably still have to revise a thousand times to get something close to what you actually want and when you put all this work into telling an AI what you want, it will most likely has thousands of security issues. But even if not, you wanna update some small thing? Good luck telling the AI that you want the button to be blue while it flushes your whole database in the process
