I believe AI Music (AIM) would benefit from having its own taxonomy to help clear up some of the issues it is causing, and out of respect for traditional human artists and musicians. With it clearly being defined, everyone, ie the music industry and public will then know where they stand. It will still be part of the music industry because, like it or not it exists and it is still music, and it doesnt and will never replace traditiinal human generated music and talent. AIM is just a new form of music expression. I've proprosed a taxonomy for this new form of AI Musuc (AIM) as a starting point for discussion.
Ive seperated two types of AI Music (AIM), as examples based on my own experiments, but there may be more ideas. AI Generated Music (AIGM), ie music created with minimal human involvement, mostly AI crreated and clearly labelled as AIGM. Then you have Human Directed AI Generated Music (HD-AIGM) like what I enjoy making...again clearly marked az such. However, HD-AIGM form only exists because it is created from humans whose ideas create the words from researched interests important to them so the songs (or music) produced has human meaning, the human shapes the music or rewrites the words many times to ensure it says what they want it to say or sound like, not what AI just produces. This procedure can be evidenced by the threads on AI! Any words have meaning, depth and are mostly narrative and this is clearly evident in the message of the song. With HD-AIGM, again clearly labelled az such, it is humans who decide on the words, the structure and the end piece, not AI. HD-AIGM is allowing non musically trained people an opportunity to use a tool to be creative and express themselves through music.
Then we have people who compose music, write lyrics, sing, play instruments who use AI purely as a tool for enhancement or as a production tool. This is still human generated music and shouldnt really come under AI Music (AIM). AI is not involved in the creative process other than as an enhancement or production tool which other forms of these tools already exist and are used within the music industry.
So out of respect for traditional artists and musician I feel defining a new taxonomy for AI Music (AIM) will help at lesst define what this new form of musical expression and crestivity is. Then once a taxonomy has been agreed upon then bounderies can be reeached. AIM creators should not be discredited for using a new tool. Music is always subjective....it will be the listeners who decide if its good music or not but this applies to human generated music as well. As in all ibdustries we have the goid, the bad and the ugly! Lol. Anyway, as someone who is experimenting creating mostly HD-AIGM music, and have had discussiions with people who are talented traditional human artists, I feel a new taxonomy for AIM - ie AI Music maybe the first step towards sorting out some of the issues AIM appears to be causing at present. Its needs all the different form of organisations to come togethet to at least discuss a way foward, and I believe defining a new taxonomy for AIM is a good starting point for this.
