Ignoring the ethical issues with ai. The main value i see in it is that it allows rapid, high-quality concepting. I fairly commonly see an ai piece on pinterest and think to myself how no one would pay an artist to draw that. And as it develops it may be able to aid the workflow of artists. Tbh, it's the wild west right now, and how advanced it will get seems pretty muddy to me. If only it wasnt built off stealing we could have much healthier conversations.
