Honestly the biggest detractors of AI will eventually be the top 1% of capitalists themselves. Let's not kid ourselves, none of these AI startups are building these models with the goals of providing a UBI-funded "free time" eutopia for humanity. It's literally just the next class of aspiring 1%-ers trying to "disrupt" more industries and economies so they can be the next mega-rich oligarchs. Also it's important to clarify that what we have now is not "intelligence" and that AI is just the new buzz word for iterations (albeit more advanced iterations) on the algorithmic systems that we've already had for a decade now. There are no credible computer scientists that can even guess as to how long it will take to create true AGI, if it's possible at all. AI is going to change the world, but not because the tech itself will ever be transformative, but because a bunch of very wealthy people bet a LOT of money on it being the next "disruption" and they don't want to admit it was never going to be as transformative as theybwere promised
