Well, we went from "why did the artist make that mark on that place" to "why did the original artists do a mark in that place". Same goal, just a few steps further.
Art, at the end of the day, is extremely subjective, something you think is good might not be even decent for others, that's why we have so much variety. Me personally, I couldn't care less if the images I use were made by a person, an algorithm or an elephant in the middle of nowhere, as long as it looks good I'll like it.
