If the ChatGPT he used was prior to the version you used (e.g. a 4 instead of a 5, not a 5.x compared to a 5.y), then I'd say it referring to ChatGPT separately isn't necessarily such a stretch. "I didn't recommend that, but my younger clone did" as it were.
You would think that the chlorine/bromine control would be more like "don't just exchange one element from the periodic table with another" -- otherwise we're gonna end up with more variations of this same problem, sigh.
