Obviously, public transport is a huge failure and those who have to use it, hate it. What if Tesla brings the cost so far down that actually owning a car would be a huge waste of money. What if it costs only $1 a mile? You don't have to sit with anyone. Yah, it's coming. Then what about keeping these robo taxies busy all night delivering packages? With a robot inside to deliver to the door? Not possible, not until 2040 at the soonest? maybe, but I don't think we'll be waiting even 5 years from now. I say, lets not spend any more money on public transit, and let the private sector solve the problem.
