Given the development of QUAKE (moreso the first one) was an absolute shitshow that ended with more than half of the original ID Software team leaving the company due to the camaderire being almost completely shattered, I dont blame Carmack for not being sentimental about the old school method of game making and wanting to streamline the programming process with new tech. QUAKE may have been a groundbreaking classic, but it was NOT a fun game to make. I am NOT a fan of generative AI nor the idea of it hurting jobs in an already struggling game industry/economy, but I can at least kindof understand where Carmack is coming from. Making games is not a game, it is a capricious, unpredictable and grueling process where you more or less have to build the factory before you can even build the car (and then attach the factory to the car with duct tape and good hopes to ensure that it runs).
