One of the main frictions to implementing any software is testing. That need does not disappear or get sped up with AI generated code. Even if the code were generated perfectly it would be only perfect in comparison to what was asked of it. For most coding now without AI that is where the real effort is testing the requirements which supposes faultless specification of environments that are generally fairly complicated that need to interact with multiple internal and external systems. Even without AI I doubt if more than 20% of a new software project is coding. Simple things, like CRM, that can be packaged are already done. The effort increases the more regulated an industry is, say like healthcare or banking. If you rolled out a new insurance premium modelling software, then without AI this is already something thats pretty opaque, with AI it could become a total black box until regulators say 'No' we need to see the step by step determination of premiums in these situations.
I think AI will eventually speed things up and help resolve some bottlenecks.....but if it was 50% improvement within the next decade that would, in my view, be an awesome achievement.
Remember the tech bros like moving fast and breaking things, they can do this as they are in light touch regulatory spaces. Look at the continuing pantomime at MS with Windows 11 which apparently has a significant AI input.
