AI art was just programmers getting annoyed every time an artist went "machines could never reproduce what we can do" and decided to prove them wrong out of spite.
But seriously, AI art isn't unethical imo. If you paid an artist to draw something and they used other people's styles or pieces as inspiration, that wouldn't be considered unethical. In this case, it's basically commissioning the programmer to be the artist to draw the piece and they've used an AI as an unorthodox tool to do so. It might be bad news for many artists, but in the same way that automation was bad for factory workers: ethically neutral.
