Raw LLM Responses

People used to think sitting still for hours on end was unnatural and caused harm to the brain. Thankfully we've moved past that particular thought process. I've worked on several personal experiments in writing with AI. Some were quickly abandoned drafts. Others were soulless outlines of various concepts I threw together. There was a point where I thought working with AI on writing projects was just going to be fruitless and just add to my overall dissatisfaction with the way my art was progressing. I have found a method that works for me. I use the AI when I want to revaluate the ideas I've brainstormed and feel ready to form a basic outline. Truth to tell, I'm probably not ready to outline but I'm excited and want to see progress. Outlining with the AI is like talking about my story concepts with my best friend. It inserts weird conclusions and tries to push certain concepts over others. Really, sometimes what the AI generates is so out of context that I have to fight the urge to ask why or how it got to that conclusion. My friend will do this too but they are insulted if I start quizzing them to deeply as to why their idea is a great fit for my story. The result is the same. I have an outline of what my story is not and that includes a list of changes to make and things to think about. The difference is that the AI doesn't care if at the end of the session I throw the entire thing in the trash. My friend would require an explanation if I didn't use their idea and would quite probably be hurt. At the end of the day, it's about finding the right balance in usage. I prefer pen and paper for brainstorming but when I'm feeling overwhelmed by all the ideas, I want some organization. And I use the AI to organize the bulk of my ideas and maybe brainstorm a few connections. When the AI stops being useful, I switch back to a word processor to rewrite (not copy/paste) the outline. I won't be using the AI at all on the drafts. I want the tone, the shape, the voice of the story to be me and I can't do that with the AI.
