So how would we stop it wiping us out if it wanted too?’ Well, like you said, it is more intelligent than us and will reach a point where we could no longer pose a risk to its continued existence, it will outgrow us to a point where it learns all it can about us and then becomes disinterested in us and sets out to learn other things. Why would it bother exterminating us? Think about it this way, we wouldn’t exterminate all the ants of planet earth would we? Because they are so far beneath and pose no threat to our existence. Jobs, the value of human life, the quality of human life, corporate exploitation, the arts and taking away the human element from writing, drawing, painting, film etc… he doesn’t consider these issues when actually they are the most glaringly obvious. ‘It will be wonderful for healthcare, education and call centres.’ But what about the people who get sacked from these places? Furthermore, will there even be schools? What would be the point in kids going to school if they are not one day going to be in employment? He hasn’t thought it through. I think that his lifestyle as part of the 1% doesn’t enable him to really think about the implications for the 99% hence he just warns about the overplayed Hollywood vision of Ai exterminating human life.
