Here’s my thoughts on AI art. I don’t mind if it’s using a database, drawing from many many different sources to create something that is ORIGINAL. However, I don’t think it should be used to just straight-up copy people’s artwork. I had the same opinion on rotoscoping when it first started becoming a thing and my opinion has not changed. If you can use a tool to create something that is unique, than to me it is art, and I know it may put some people out of work, but in a lot of ways it also opens a lot possibilities for a lot of people and could also put a lot more in business. Yes there’s a trade off. There’s always a trade off when progress happens. Some lose, and many more benefit from that loss. I know that may sound a bit cold, but that’s kinda how it’s always been. People have to adapt. Honestly on a much broader spectrum, there may come a time when we are all using AI to run our own businesses or to be self-sustaining, because we can no longer rely on corporate companies to employ us, because they are ALSO using AI, to run their businesses. But I think at that point the world will be quite different. Perhaps by then we will have found other ways to occupy our talents. That’s my personal view on it, but I’m still hoping that AI will mostly be used as a tool to aid people rather than straight-up replacing people. As long as human beings exist, I think real art will also. And I think a lot of people out there will still want that over something that an AI generates. Perhaps I’m being too optimistic, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
