But ultimately, isn't the AI doing exactly what an Artost does? Looking at the world around it, absorbing all of the experience of its predecessors and create new works from that. Artists, however original, do not exist in a vacuum. We've been doing this since the dawn of time. The real difference is that in the past those creating new works, based on their life experience to that point, actually needed some artistic ability to produce something that "looked" professional.... that's not the case any longer. And with a declining sense of taste and critical thinking amongst the consumers of the "art" does it even matter? For years, people calling themselves "designers" have been pilfering together other artists original work in Photoshop and claiming it's "original". Many of these "designers" are little more than software operators. This is nothing new... computers are just doing it better now than we can and democratising the process in the process.
