A point that I think a lot of people miss about the positive argument for drug discovery is that the models that are enabling this work are only related to the chat based/agent model in underlying architecture. The things coming out of the main AI labs have nothing to do with improving that process but like to point to them as a benefit. This is despite their efforts only being related to that work in that their AI is used to write code at the companies that are actually pursuing these efforts. If Anthropic, xAI and OpenAI shut down tomorrow there would be no effect on the speed of drug discovery. It is an incredibly disingenuous argument for them to make as it is not what they are working on.
