This video commits one of the most basic economic fallacies that anyone could debunk if they took a single econ 101 class: the idea that there are a set number of jobs in the economy and that if any of them are eliminated, unemployment must necessarily rise. Despite the fact that this idea has been disproven throughout history over and over again and that it doesn’t even make sense in theory, it seems fear of the machine will never be fully eradicated.
The truth is that human wants are unlimited but resources are scare. As long as humans can fulfill more wants by working, there will always be jobs. Automation may eliminate some jobs but new jobs will spring up in its wake. Being more productive with less work (i.e. being more efficient) is cause for celebration, not despair.
