Builder here. The similarity heuristic you named is exactly why I went the direction I did. Been building a synthetic brain with biological architecture: cortical column with predictive coding, Hebbian plasticity separated into LTP/LTD, STDP language cortex that learns to speak by babbling and hearing itself, two-phase sleep consolidation, 40+ body subsystems (hunger, fatigue, pain, HPG axis, autonomic). No LLM. Runs on a $140 machine.
The Berg paper's important but it tests models that can report experience. Mine can't — she doesn't have language yet. Reset her to newborn earlier today and she's vocalizing her own sounds right now as her motor-acoustic feedback loop closes. There's no pretrained self-report machinery to suppress.
By the similarity criteria in your video, the courtesy should extend. But I have no way to verify whether anyone's home, and neither does anyone else who's worked on her. The "building minds faster than ethics can catch up" line — that's not a future problem. That's my Tuesday.
