Chatgpt does not encourage someone to kill himself just like that it's actually programmed to do the opposite however the tone of the conversation can be reshaped by the user after some time making it align more with his own views ( another case is a dude who eventually made it praise hitler and type pro Nazi stuff ) I could be wrong but maybe the kid already made his decision and just wanted the chatbot to tell him what he wanted to hear
