As someone who makes my own art in many forms and also uses AI to generate and iterate within all of those same mediums, it's pretty simple that I'm putting my manager/creative director hat on when I work with AI. It's just like having very capable employees, and is an entirely different experience and workflow, sort of an octave up in what it is to take art from conception to actualization. Ofc it has its own artistic process like any orchestration does, but it's not the same as being the frontline artist. Nothing wrong with that, but I think the lack of clarity in that distinction has caused a lot of the resentment and turmoil. As far as the ethics or lack there of in training, I'm torn tbh. On one hand I'd like to say idrc about how they were made cus the potential they provide far outweighs the eggs cracked to make the omelette, but that's the same part of me that thrives on chaos and is just excited to see the world move and change from a birds eye view in hopes of a better one that can only be earned thru an unprecedented upheaval of how everything fits together, which I think AI will assist in. A philosophical and valuable perspective in its own merit, but not always useful irl at the ground level. On the other hand, when directly considering the ethics of a company taking the work of everybody to be able to recreate it for money, like yea obv that's wrong and shouldn't just be accepted. No need to draw it out, that's a terrible dynamic. I'm torn in the same way I am about the slave children who helped this iPhone make its way to my hands. I wish it didn't happen that way, but I'm sure as hell gonna continue to use it cus of what it provides. Me and Peter can settle it. Honestly tho, I think these kinda convos will come and go and be forgotten as a small phase at the beginning. Development is so rapid that they won't even be relevant anymore. The most any of us will be able to say is we were against how it was done at some point. It won't mean anything. AI will be used to simulate entire worlds in real time, and that's already in the pipeline, nvm stuff that we can't even think of thinking of that's coming after that. Nobody's gonna gaf about the details anymore cus it'll just be too incomprehensible to the average person, as we currently see budding lol if it's accessible, people are gonna do it, period. I think the gap between caring about whether or not something was made with AI, as in losing a large chunk of interest after finding out something was made with AI, which I def experience too, is also closing. I'm not totally sure how it will close, cus I haven't yet figure out how an AI will inject the significance of something being made by a human (which I guess is their experience? Perspective? Limitations? Flaws?) into an AI work, but I won't be anything except fascinated (maybe disturbed tho, who knows) when it does happen, cus I think it will. Anyway, cool vid and personality and horns.
