Why don't they code daydreaming and mind-wandering into AI? If they want to make it more like a human's consciousness, do that. When no one is asking it anything, start having random bullshit it's already answered just pop up without any prompt like a memory. Don't instruct it on how to deal with the information. Only make it aware there's something there that needs attention but no user to respond to. We nearly forget our name when we are dug-in and hyper-focused on a hard problem. Figure out a way to code that in. Our noisy, wandering mind is a huge part of our consciousness.
