Nobody is "replacing developers with AI", its just an excuse for companies to cut cost and dead weight with an excuse. I work in the industry. AI is looked at as a productivity tool for senior devs, as you need to have experience to get the most out of it, know when its giving you garbage, when to test. Even with AIs issues you still save a lot of labor in writing the code and design iteration, as a TOOL. Also using AI doesn't automatically make it "slop code" unless you're a lazy dev, again, it comes down to the person using it. As a time saver with proper mindset and testing its amazing. Microsoft has had slop code from Windows 8 and beyond, before AI... Just another excuse in this poor economy to let people go. I will say it does propose a problem for devs getting into the industry. You can get hired as grunt work with tickets is always needed, but you need that direct experience to use AI correctly without it being slop, and many jr devs rely solely on it too much and never catch mistakes in it.
