I have mixed feelings about this. To give context I'm an oil painter. The way Sam talks about how AI produces images from these data sets is sort of like how human artists create images. Your mind is not in isolation. You see tons of images all the time and the viewing of these images is stored subconsciously and when the artist produces images they are sub consciously referencing these images. Its not copying but the artist expression is just an expression which comes from a conglomeration of references that he viewed and synthesized in his mind. This seems a lot like how the AI is doing it so I am torn about this. Yeah it sucks but is it really the same as just copying someone else's work?
