"... the only way it's possible to actually reduce the parking is if we share the self-driving cars ..."
What? The way that self-driving cars are supposed to reduce parking is by sharing _parking spaces,_ not cars. Most parking spaces are empty most of the time. For a person to use their car to commute to work, they need to have a parking space at home and a parking space at work. Those spaces mostly aren't shared with anyone. (An old-fashioned factory could have three shifts, but old-fashioned factories don't provide any appreciable percentage of employment any more.) A car that's also used for errands means that you need some share of a parking space everywhere you go. That's what gets us from two spaces per car to nine. If we all had self-driving cars, many businesses that now have parking lots would be able to just have pick-up / drop-off areas.
That would mean some additional traffic, as cars travel to and from parking spaces. But as the video says, the thing that actually reduces traffic is public transit. And what keeps us from having public transit? Low density. If you build a subway station anywhere in our endless miles of single-family houses on large lots, only about ten households will be in walking distance. So you need a park-and-ride, if you're going to have transit serve those areas. With self-driving cars, you wouldn't need the park-and-ride. You would just have the pick-up / drop-off area, and the cars would go park at home.
