Big tech is always pretending that it's plan is the way of the future and inevitable. But this is rarely the case unless they make something that actually improves people lives. Like you said NFTs and self driving cars but we also got metaverse and hyper loop in just the past 5 years or so. Big tech has no problem throwing billions around to hype stock price, then pretend it is the only path forward and after a while quietly let projects die. In a world of only short term gain that is a success.
