The third downside is that the more popular they become (and the more intentional poisoning projects like this there are), the more incentive and data the creators of AI tools have to make them smart enough to see through this kind of poison (and to keep more secrets of the kind of data the poisoner needs to generate poisonous artifacts that work). In other words, as long as there is demand for cheap art, poison art will have the long term effect of improving AI art and AI in general.
