I am of the opinion that AI art shouldnt be commercialised and sold, that said, pandora's box was opened, there is no stopping it now, especially the nature of how this all works. You dont just need to use a service or website to create AI art, you can literally download automatic1111's webui and a few models of your choosing and there you have it. You can generate AI art, even without an internet connection. And it goes back to that old adage "once its on the internet, its there forever".
We are at the point where these models can be trained by individual users, not just companies. As we have already seen with your own artwork. The only thing I can see having some kind of affect would be some form of regulation restricting the sale of AI art, but how would that be implemented going forwards the more the AI improves at generating art work?
Your idea is that these companies would have to get artist's consent before using copyright material? Ok thats reasonable, so instead these companies use non-copyrighted public domain? What then?
We can still get to the same standard of quality and even then some, because like I just said individuals can train their own models and build upon existing models as well, grabbing images and captioning them to train the AI. This can be done by individuals just like me and you now. Some of the most popular models were created by users on 4Chan, its accessible...
So how can all of this be reasonably regulated? What about on an international scale? I dont really see how having companies ask for artists consent will make a difference, because its not just companies its individuals that can create these models.
