I've run into conflict at my drop-in DND tables because a LOT of people are using AI generators to create images of their characters. I've always been loud and clear that I hate the use of AI, will never use AI, and will save to pay an artist to create art of my character if I can't get a good enough reference myself - as many of them are young adults who don't have a ton of disposable income, I often hear the argument that "they can't afford to pay an artist" -- but for me, isn't that literally the root of the issue? If you value and desire something that much, shouldn't you also value the person that created it?? Didn't we all grow up listening to the TV warn us, "You wouldn't steal a house? - pirating is stealing!" AI is stealing. The creators of AI generators are thieves, and the people who knowingly use AI generators are thieves, too.
