I'm disabled enough to be on a pension for it but I can still make art. It's not enough to keep me employed—but then anyone can use an AI, disabled or not, so even if it was a lot better than it is, using it wouldn't suddenly make me competitive in the art industry.
In that case it's competing only with art as self-expression, and there it fails miserably, because having a machine generate based on key words is not me expressing anything. You could argue a few key words can be expression, and sure, why not? But what the machine does in response to those words is totally out of my hands, literally and figuratively. It's not like drawing or painting or writing where, even in a digital medium, I control the process that creates the end result manually. My control and thus creative input with an image generator are very limited. It just doesn't feel the same at all. If all I could manage to create in a day was a few words, I'd sooner learn to write a haiku than use it as a prompt.
