Idm using it for reference - I (try) to use it that way too.
But, turns out, when you limit it to "I want reference images for things where I can't find a good reference image after a few somewhat thorough image searches" like I try to, at least with the two things I've tried so far, it's either very difficult or even borderline impossible to get a sufficiently good reference image from AI either.
Also, I'm 100% sure AI is inevitable as the future, examples being the AI used to get to solve the question of protein foldings, AI being used in material science, etc - whether AI image generation is, though, I can't say. The way it's working out now, it's not looking good for it.
Btw, the poisoning thing: Idk how Nightshade works, but I believe to have read something about using AI gen images to feed AI results in substantial worsening of the quality, so that might be another avenue to explore.
Also, what? "AI is just a new medium"? How did that thought process get through their brain? Digital art is digital. AI is still just a program, something digital. If we stretch it, it would still be classified under digital art.
