The AI engine is just acting as an unpaid employee. See the argument is telling a musician friend, a person, to write the song, but if I went to my Yamaha keyboard, pressed the Grand Piano button, and it produced a grand piano noise, that's a tool and I would clearly have the copyright to the resulting product of that tool. So if AI is a tool then it is nothing more than a weird synth with 108 keys and some very weird rules for generating noise. Random output has been covered since the days of analogue synths as enivornmental noise, static, even rain, can be copyrighted. (Stares at a stack of Nature Soundscape dvds gathering dust in the corner). This will be interesting over the next few years. But now, just think of all that AI driven code that Google is using, and a leak happens... and they have to try and enforce a copyright on that code... but it was AI derived... imagine just one section of code invalidating your copyright to a program. BILLIONS on the line... I just chuckle at the drama we all had with GPL contamination. AI Contamination will be ... wait for it.... legendary. Make some popcorn folks it will be a one hell of a decade here...
