I agree with many things in this video, especially when it comes to indirectly (re)commercializing artist's works. But keep in mind this entire technology is, as of now, largely open source, and free to use by everyone. Of course, by uploading your art, you don't (necessarily) agree that it's open source, copyright free content that can be used (or 'repurposed') by AI. But the way artist's now push for their copyrights and more generally legal frameworks to regulate the use of their works for AI training isn't so much a push against commercialization, but rather an attempt to be part of it. In other words, the artists currently included in these models want their share, but they don't want them to be free. When in a few years this technology has become an integral part in art creation as a whole, most artists won't earn a penny from it (as they won't be included in the models that will at that point be highly streamlined products), but will in fact have to pay large companies and by proxy other, established artists in order to use it. So yeah, the way this is working currently is unethical (whether it is illegal no one -really- knows), but what artists are currently pushing for (e.g. the CAA's gofundme) isn't exactly an unproblematic perspective either. I'll gladly elaborate in case anyone finds this interesting. This is a complicated topic that's not as clear cut as most people will make it seem, and the future perspective of "where this all leads" is almost never discussed.
