The system is sustained by the poor and the middle class through consumption. If everyone is in misery and unemployed, with only a basic income to avoid starvation, who will buy the products that AI will produce? Cell phones, cars, appliances, medicine, clothes...the system cannot sustain itself by only selling products to the 0.1% of the elite. It needs the mass of the population to have a minimum amount of money to consume...
