I'm only halfway through the video but i have to say this omfg. (spoiler: this is a long ass rant 😭) AI defenders who say that its art and they can agree to disagree because "art is subjective"; for a long time i wouldve thought the same too, that art is ultimately "subjective" but i think the only "good" thing that all this AI "art" bullshit did for me is realise the universal thing about art, and its *intent*. Philosophers discussed about what real art was and people have different opinions on what art is, sure, its subjective in that matter but its just as subjective as liking blue or red. Theyre both colors, you just have a preference. I know the example isnt exactly fitting in this situation, but to take you to my point--- Every. Single. Piece. That someone created like you said in the video, had intent. If the purpose was to capture a realistic object precisely as close to its counterpart in reality, if the purpose was to design an anime character, if the purpose was to show your emotion or heck, your emotionlessness with colors on a canvas; your brush strokes and choice of colors still had intent. It had a reason, you had a reason to do it that way. Hell, even now i'd argue that a "banana taped on the wall" has more intent and purpose than a god damn AI generated slop. EVEN if your sole purpose is to create something "aesthetic", thats still your intent!! Even if you believe in different definitions for "art", it still has this ONE thing that makes a universal definition possible and its the intent and purpose behind it. Even if you ignore the time, the process, the efforts to learn all those fundementals to create something unique to yourself, you can NOT ignore intent becuase every single time i look at an AI piece no matter how "good" it looks at first glance i can always find a line thats.. like.. weirdly blended in with something or a line that doesnt look like a line because ITS. NOT. A. GODDAMN. LINE. BECAUSE IT WAS _NOT_ INTENDED TO BE A LINE. It's just an imitation of a line and it sucks. But i guess these AI bros' lives suck more because they dont even know theyre defending that a slop a machine made is "Art" when the machine itself cant even see it, doesnt know what its doing, and is just putting random crap together to disguise itself as a real image and thats just pathetic. Saying that its your art because you "had the idea" and "prompted it" is pathetic. I dont know if theyre ready to hear this but listen: If you *cant* change the outcome in DETAIL, nah bro thats not yours. If you cant change a detail that you dont like about the piece, then you have no control over it, its as simple as that. And when you dont have control over it, your intent doesnt really have an impact if you have one in the first place. When you comission an artist, you can ask them to change something. If youre a movie director- its literally your job to _direct!_ If youre writing a prompt and ai is giving you an image, you can NOTTTT change the outcome in its making progress because surprise, its not YOU making it. Wow!! shockers, i know. I know nobody will read this but i just had to pour my heart somewhere lmao anyways fuck ai <3
