If these companies could be held liable for every single crash that their vehicles are involved in, and I would also extend it to the owner of the vehicle, and perhaps insurance companies, then I suspect the push for self-driving cars would be significantly reduced. All it takes is a few law suits to create a precedence of liability, and either insurance companies would refuse to insure self driving cars, or people will stop wanting this technology.
