You know what a human operator followed by a bunch of obedient freight boxes that runs along a set route sounds like to me? A freakin' TRAIN. They already exist! But no. All these grifter tech-bros are too obsessed with the idea of automated solo vehicles because it looks cool on a CG rendered presentation.
The platooning thing is impossibly stupid. What happens when an impatient road-rager cuts between two of the robo-trucks and brake checks to take an exit and there's an accident and three of the robo-trucks have to stop? Is the human just supposed to say "oh well!' and motor on? Or are they and the other trucks they're leading supposed to pull over so they can deal with it? Human drivers have enough stuff to deal with. I drove for 12 years, so ask me how I know. I wouldn't want that responsibility. And what if someone gets hurt by the robo-trucks? Who's responsible? The human lead driver? Sounds like exactly the sort of thing a big corporate trucking company would set up so they could avoid liability.
We genuinely live in the dumbest possible timeline.
