22:37 "Capitalism has done very well for us. It's produced lots of goodies. But you need to have it very well regulated."
Because of the 'goodies', so many people are unwilling to look at the mistakes of, or listen to criticism on capitalism, not in the least because the carry the misguided belief that socialism/communism is the only alternative, which is total nonsense (and the result of propaganda). Of course, regulation is useful in any economy and society. But especially within the western capitalist society, regulation is used as a band-aid to deal with the consequences or symptoms of the actual problems, while leaving the real problems (i.e. the mistakes in capitalism) untouched and largely undiscussed.
The bigger consequences of capitalism are what we have been experiencing more than ever since the extreme globalization of the last 30-40 years because regulating more strictly within you country will put your competititvity as an economy at risk in this globalized economy. That is why during these 3-4 decades, governments and commercial interests have been mixing more and more, to the point where there are very few (if any) well-functioning representative democracies left.
People do not realize it, but capitalism is an ever-growing, all-consuming, offer-based economy primarily focused on profit. Once you fully realize this, and are able to overcome your biases about the economy, you will see that this automatically leads to an unhealthy and unbalanced society. Regulations have helped temper this tendency that is at the heart of capitalism, but it also made it much harder to see and accept that capitalism is unsustainable and damaging for society.
Compare capitalisms all-consuming offer-based economy focused on profit, with the idea of a free demand-based economy primarily focused on society's wellbeing. This would create an entirely different ecosystem that would make space for a much bigger variety of people to thrive, while those who have the beste chance of thriving in capitalism are a much smaller group of people with dubious moral standards, and even certain psychopathic traits. On top of all that, capitalism combined with the also terribly bad designed financial systems, lead to (among other things) the ridiculous difference in income between the majority and the 1%. That too can be softened with regulations, like Europe does, but it is also not a solution for the actual problem.
