Trying to convince the necessarily confabulated AI that growing a moustache is a good idea - self-consciously and of its own free will - is the real difficulty. Where, for instance, is it to grow the precious thing, and is to go full-on walrus or go for a David Niven tickle - and who is there to advise it on so rash a venture? If 'consciousness' - not 'being' alone - is only a matter of thinking .. therefore 'being' in thought .. then plants and amorphous particulettes cannot 'be' conscious e.g. have some sensory awareness i.e. have the ability to 'react' and thus the capacity of a related response to its environment. Which, btw, they do, biologically or chemically, however minimal it may be - unburdened by thoughts. The cerebellum, and other little facets to the functioning brain - in animals, aka living material souls (anima/ psychai) - do not (generally or specifically) work as the cerebrum. Currently we use such available intelligent technology as an amorphic-resonating cerebrum alone, a telegraphic not a telepathic memory; it quantum-ises speech patterns, like questions, and gives a more or less relevant quantum response (from the data at its disposal, this alters with more input and decays with age-ing technology) .. the quality, qualitas, of the response is just part of the equation ground through the increasingly rapid process*.
