He’s like a dude who’d like to be a great artist, but he absolutely has no style, imagination nor aspiration to become one. He just wants the title for ego.
Shad is like a dude who wants to be everything: a swords expert, history expert, collector, great artist, writer, intellectual etc., but he is mediocre at best in everything. A snarky, walking dunning krueger, who thinks using shortcuts and means to an end to call himself an artist, probably because of his jealous nature burdened by eventual laziness.
