I think of the brain the same way I do any physical structure. It's governed by the laws of physics and chemistry. It isn't metaphysical and it is composed of elements and materials you can find in nature. So then it becomes a matter of structure, features, etc. We are squishy robots. There are lesser forms of life just as there are lesser forms of AI. As he pointed out as you gradually replace neurons, at what point do you stop being conscious? I don't think the conduit matters. Just the processes that allow consciousness to occur.
