Same feeling with coding. My sister was sometimes asking if I could write a piece of software or code a website for her and I had to decline. One day she asked me to test her game on her website and I was dumbfounded. It was all prompted into existence: Clipart, games like memory, hangman and a quiz, lots of JavaScript, CSS and HTML. It was efficient for sure, but made me realize that these creative skills that we specialize in and honed for years, are now accessible to everyone with no effort.
I donʼt want to contribute to open-source any longer. It used to feel great to see people from all around the globe forego politics and work together on, say, a part of the Linux desktop to bring it to perfection.
Now Iʼm thinking mostly of how itʼs all going to be scraped by Claude AI to eventually be used behind the scenes for some product like Base 44 that sells you the delusion of creating an app just by thinking of it, when it is really feeding off of the free labor of millions.
