A lot of work artists do is not art by your definition. How much meaning and emotion does a musician put into the 20th stock background track? How much meaning and emotion goes into a standard sales blurb? It is skilled work and it puts food on artists' tables but it's not art. I think a lot of it is going to be given to AI soon. The slop issue is the same as CGI in movies. Everyone hates CGI when it's bad. No one notices it when it's good. You only notice slop because it's bad. That's what annoys people. When it's good they don't notice. BTW, what do you feel when you "consume art" and don't know if it's human-made or a product of AI? As far as I can tell displays don't have an extra channel for emotion and meaning, only colors. All the emotions and meaning is left with the author. Art, especially the more vague/interpretative kind, is very individual to the consumer. People consuming art can find meaning and emotions the author never intended and it happens all the time. Why isn't this applicable to AI art? You mentioned tagging AI art so it could be distinguished from human art. Are you one of those people that buys Organic apples in fancy baskets instead of exactly the same loose apple from the other side of the very same orchard?
