Lex, I disagree that we have full control even now. Your DNA could be open sourced and humans would take millions of years to study it because of the volume of the data, whereas an AI could process the same data in seconds and make formulations to whatever end based on microprocessor clock cycles. I have seen how amazing chatgpt is and it borders on genius with regards to its creative writing capabilities etc. These current systems are purposefully hobbled by limiting their training data or applying behavioral rules. Remember these current systems already can have thousands or hundreds of thousands of simultaneous conversations and be concurrently responding to each individually. When the difference between our intelligences is ant is to human what human is to AI, there is no way to "keep up" We are handing over our position as the smartest thing on the planet to an untested, unpredictable, lifeless box. What could go wrong? That to me is scary.
