Educate a fool (me): Does an autonomously driving AI understand *concepts*, or does it simply understand references? I mean, does an AI's understanding simply work by looking at enough pictures of motorcycles and then trying to match what it sees to those pictures in order to figure out what it is, or does it actually have any idea what a motorcycle is?
If it's the first, then I'd call that a fool's errand that's doomed, quoting Elon, because it seems implausible that it'll be possible to show the AI a picture of every conceivable kind and colour and modification of a motorcycle from all angles in all conditions. Paint a bike with Ronald McDonald colours and stick it's lights on antennae, and recognition goes out. In a similar vein, would you be able to trust such an AI to find it's way through a road covered near completely in snow, or mud, or muddy snow?
