I think what sooooo many artists miss about this is that while yes, your art is part of the online world and will therefore be included in the AI system, it is not copy and pasting your work. Rather, it is picking up little bits and pieces from several areas to finally develop a final product. One that, by the way, has to also abide by several specific prompts. Often, AI is creating something that never existed anywhere else. So if it is only collecting a small portion of like 100 art pieces, it would be doing nothing wrong. Why? Because YOU as an artist will do similar without realizing it. When we're learning art in school or wherever, we are often learning from an instructor. Someone who learned from another instructor and so on. They along with ourselves have a connection to specific art styles and artists that we will connect to and essentially copy without realizing it. On top of that, if we ever need to recreate an image of something that exists...we still have to make it something new. At the same time, we have to keep it similar. Like if I asked you to draw Wolverine, are you going to make the exact same image as someone like Jim Lee did? Probably not. But if Lee was an artist that inspired you, chances are, a lot of your art will show that inspiration. It is just human nature to do this, even if we do not. Batman: The Animated Series for example, ran into this similar issue. The artists behind it essentially copied the art style of an earlier Superman cartoon. Was it intentional? Not at all, but the artists behind it still shared that love and used a similar style without thinking. So what does this mean for artists? Your work is NOT being stolen! It is not being copied and pasted and called new by some AI artist. Rather, only a small percentage of it is used in an overall image if any is used at all. Sometimes, AI just picks a style but the art itself may not look exactly like that. Therefore, it's idiotic for artists to be so pissed off about AI Art when they quite literally have done the exact same thing AI has done. The difference? They actually took the time to draw that out while AI could do it in seconds. This, in the end, is the only difference between the two.
