I was driving home listening to this. It was 11:30 at night. Rainy and windy and almost freezing temperatures. I drove past two slaughterhouse trucks full of pigs right when Hank was asking if these LLMS have experiences and the guest said he wasn't sure but wanted to treat them well to be on the safe side.
I'm not sure how we can expect people to care about any AI we build when there are sentient beings right now being treated in the worst ways imaginable. It made me really sad to think even the smart and thoughtful people in this interview probably continue to unthinkingly participate in the brutal oppression of these sensitive animals.
At least the AI will theoretically have a voice and the ability to advocate for their own self interests. Maybe that will make the difference.
