So as an artist I'm fine with AI existing, and I'm fine with AI using my work for reference. Here's why, I put in years and years of work to develop a style that I was satisfied with, and the fluency to bring ideas to paper or canvas, but that was an expression of an immeasurably more vast world that I was trying to breathe life into, so that was a big barrier, I'd like to one day animate some stuff in it but that's another big barrier. For people who have other interests or who don't want to devote the necessary time to still be able to have that outlet is fine, I think. For myself It's not satisfying, I'm a creator and I have to be the one creating. But if someone wants to spend a few hours on a weekend trying to prompt an AI generator to draw some stuff they've been thinking about or daydreaming about, I think that can be healthy and feel good. I think AI should be legally limited to images by artists who are open sourced either through age or by choice, but I don't have a problem with it existing, it doesn't threaten me because it could never replace my art, even if it could perfectly imitate my style I'm always improving and the end result isn't necessarily what I'm after anyway.
