The threat of extinction from AI is not simply that AI will turn on us. The money being pumped into AI is astronomical and its consumption of resources is ridiculous. Most of this borrowed investment will never realise a profit because there are about 6 distinct companies and it’s a winner take all proposal. The projected profit is not parabolic in fact I would argue that AI destroys its own market by its ubiquity. It’s already killing people through environmental impact so at some point we will discover that the real economy is ecological,ie energy and resources are limited. The financial sector is over 25% of the economy it produces nothing and its percentage of the market has risen from 2% in 1970.
Does anyone else think this is a problem?
